[Like the rendering of old lenses.] A soft filter that reduces contrast and gives photos a soft, muted color tone.
[The "opposite" of Black Mist] White Mist is the opposite of Black Mist, using a white diffusing agent. It has a stronger effect of reducing contrast than Black Mist, and reduces saturation to create a softer tone.
[Even high-performance lenses with sharp images are given a subtly softer rendering] Even when attached to high-resolution cameras such as 40-megapixel cameras and the latest lenses that produce sharp images, it subtly softens the rendering, giving it the look of an old lens. It retains the sharpness of the focus while creating a subtly soft rendering, resulting in an exquisite softness that makes it hard to tell that a filter is being used.
[When you want to create flare.] Generally, it's considered better to avoid flare, but more and more people are incorporating it as a form of expression when they prefer the look and feel of old lenses. When you shoot against the light with white mist applied, you can create flare that softly diffuses the light, just like with old lenses, making the backlit atmosphere even more dramatic.
*The effect may vary depending on the focal length of the lens you are using and the type of light source in your composition. Also, the effect displayed in the viewfinder may differ from the actual result of the photograph.
