Bicchu Kagura
This is a vintage Japanese mask used in Bicchu Kagura, a traditional folk performing art from Okayama Prefecture. Bicchu Kagura has been designated by the national government as an important intangible folk cultural property. It was originally performed to pray for the repose of the soul of the god Aragami, for a good harvest, and for family safety. Over time, this ritual became the central dance of Bicchu Kagura.

Pre-owned item with some scratches and stains from use and storage.
The craftsman's signature is carved on the back of the mask.
