Product Introduction
The Hatakaze-class is the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's third-generation missile destroyer, with the first, the Hatakaze, commissioned in March 1986. It is the first missile destroyer to incorporate a gas turbine propulsion system. The standard missile launchers have been relocated from the rear to the front to counter air threats from the front. To protect the launchers from waves, it is the only destroyer equipped with a bulwark on the bow. In October 2014, it was reorganized into the 1st Escort Division, 1st Escort Flotilla, but in March 2020, it was replaced by its successor, the Aegis destroyer Maya, and reclassified as a training ship.
