This piece is carved by combining two of Edo Kiriko's signature patterns, the "Yarai" and "Nanako" patterns. "Yarai" is the name given to the shape of bamboo or logs braided in an alternating pattern. Yarai fences are used in the very first stages of castle construction and stage set design, so they have the meaning of "building the foundations of something" and "solidifying the base." "Nanako" refers to fish scales, which have the connotation of "large numbers," and by extension, represent "fertility" and "abundance." Both are traditional auspicious patterns that have been loved since ancient times.
Edo Kiriko began in the Edo period and has been designated a traditional Japanese craft as a precious art that conveys the life of Edo to the present day. All pieces are handmade one by one by skilled craftsmen.
As all our products are hand-blown glass, there may be slight variations in size and color, and small air bubbles may remain, but this does not affect the quality.

This sculpture combines the representative patterns "Yarai" and "Nanako" (fish roe) together. "Yarai" is the name of the shape made by interlacing bamboo or logs. Yarai fences are used in the very first stages of castle construction and stage set making, so they have the meaning of "building the foundations of things" and "solidifying the base". "Nanako" refers to fish scales and has the connotation of "large numbers", which in turn represents "fertility" and "abundance". Both are very auspicious traditional patterns that have been loved since ancient times.
