【Explanation】 "UFO Robot Grendizer" is a television anime based on a story by Go Nagai, and shares the same worldview as the so-called "Mazinger series," which began with "Mazinger Z" and "Great Mazinger." Grendizer, which combines with the UFO Spazer, is based on Gattaiger, which appeared in the theatrical film "Space Saucer War," and its distinctive design gave the work a strong image. Furthermore, the story incorporates a dramatic taste from "Space Saucer War," and the character settings of the characters, especially Daisuke Umon, also known as Duke Fleed, become rich in nuance. In addition, Koji Kabuto, the protagonist of "Mazinger Z," also makes a regular appearance. Later, he forms the Spazer Team with Hikaru Makiba and Grace Maria Fried, and together with Grendizer piloted by Duke, they fight against the Vega Star Alliance.

The main character designs for the anime were handled by Kazuo Komatsubara, Shingo Araki, and Michi Himeno. The characters, drawn with a magnificent touch, supported the dramatic storyline.

[Story] Koji Kabuto, the former pilot of Mazinger Z, meets a young man named Daisuke Umon in Hokkaido after making an emergency landing. He was living a peaceful life as the son of Genzo Umon, the director of the Space Science Institute, but his true identity is Duke Fried, the prince of Planet Fried, which was destroyed by the Vega aliens. However, the Vega aliens' evil reach has now reached Earth... The Vega aliens, who plot to conquer the entire universe, have secretly built a base on the far side of the moon and are planning to conquer Earth with the saucer beasts they will deploy from there.
